It's one block from Avenida Tercer Mundo, the street with the restaurants, cafés and shops, and about two blocks from the beach: guests describe it as "close to everything, but on a quiet street." You'll recognize the front by the mural with the hotel's name and a bird.
Inside, the rooms spread over several floors with wooden balconies and palm-thatched roofs looking onto the pool and garden. It's a simple hotel, rated 2 stars on Expedia, with roomy units for two to four guests and some with kitchens. It scores 9.0 out of 10 on Expedia (13 of its 18 reviews are a perfect 10) and 4.6 on Google from 133 reviews; guests praise the location, the cleanliness and the friendly staff, and the most common complaint is upkeep of some details.

The Riviera Nayarit is the coast north of Puerto Vallarta: beach villages between the jungle and the Pacific, strung along Highway 200. Distances are in a straight line from the hotel; Sayulita and Punta de Mita are minutes away by car and Puerto Vallarta about an hour.

A long, open beach with strong waves and a few surfers, quiet for most of the year. Watching the sunset is the evening ritual; only swim where the waves allow it and follow the flags.

The busier surf village next door: streets hung with papel picado, Huichol craft shops, taco stands and surf schools for beginners. Great for an afternoon or dinner out.

A national park off Punta de Mita, from where boats take less than half an hour. Snorkeling over the reefs, seabirds and the Hidden Beach inside a crater, with limited access and a daily visitor cap.

A calm, family-friendly bay half an hour north. Boats leave from the beach for Coral Island, good for snorkeling; on the way is Lo de Marcos, another unhurried beach village.

An hour south: the Malecón with its bronze sculptures, the crowned tower of the Guadalupe church and the Zona Romántica, with restaurants, galleries and nightlife.

Across the bay are villages with no road, between jungle and sea: Yelapa is reached by boat from Puerto Vallarta or on a full-day tour, with a waterfall and a golden-sand beach.

The nearest airport, with direct flights from Mexico, the US and Canada. San Pancho is about 45 km away on Highway 200: about 52 minutes by car, according to Expedia.
The easiest option is a pre-booked shuttle that drops you at the door. Authorized airport taxis are the most expensive; across the pedestrian bridge on the main avenue you'll find cheaper street taxis and Uber.
Buses heading north on Highway 200 (toward Sayulita, San Pancho, Lo de Marcos and Guayabitos) pass near the airport. In San Pancho they stop at the village entrance, on the highway; from there Avenida Tercer Mundo runs down to the center, and the hotel is one block off it.
A rental car lets you explore the coast at your own pace: Punta de Mita, Sayulita, Lo de Marcos and Guayabitos are only minutes apart. The hotel has no parking; one guest notes there's a public parking lot very close by.
San Pancho, Sayulita, Punta de Mita and Bucerías (Bahía de Banderas municipality) are on the same time as Puerto Vallarta. Rincón de Guayabitos, in Compostela, is one hour behind: keep it in mind for tours and flights.

Most reviews are very positive, but some mention worn furniture, tired loungers and linens and, at times, a pool that wasn't cleaned on time or sits in the shade much of the day.
Rooms have no TV and some guests missed a bedside lamp. In some units the wifi is weak on the upper floor.
It's a quiet area, but roosters and dogs can start early. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs.
There are no extra beds or cribs: book a room with a sofa bed if you travel with children. Balconies and terraces may not suit little ones.
Upper-floor rooms are reached by stairs. Credit cards, debit cards and cash are accepted.
